D1 BOYS VOLLEYBALL UPSET No. 27 Taunton takes down No. 6 Nipmuc, is the lowest D1 seed in the power rankings era to advance to the second round. Rubber match between co-Hockomock League champs next.

Not a single team seeded lower than 20th had reached the D1 boys volleyball second round in the power rankings era. This year, No. 21 Weymouth, No. 22 Milford, No. 23 St. John’s (S) and No. 27 Taunton are still dancing. Wild.

D2 Volleyball update:

This year’s line of upsets is blowing the previous three years out of the water. No. 26 Barnstable becomes the FIFTH team seeded lower than 20 to reach the second round in D1 after it hadn’t been done at all. Impressive showing from the RedHawks.

As Mass Boys HS VBall referenced, we will now have two teams seeded lower than 20 guaranteed to reach the D1 state quarterfinals. No. 23 St. John’s Shrewsbury hosts No. 26 Barnstable in the second round, while No. 22 Milford and No. 27 Taunton face off.
