It’s the end of week 2 for me, in my new role as VP, Communications University of Toronto. The highlight? Meeting the full team of outstanding communicators and marketers who expertly shape the institution’s brand, image and narrative and share it with the world.

"Students expect to be recognized for the knowledge they have and their ability to self-direct as they learn and grow." Here's how one institution is bringing this concept to life ⬇️ insidehighered.com/opinion/views/…

Delighted to have taken part in today’s ceremony to raise the Progress Pride flag at UofT. Above all, I’m grateful to live in a society that values inclusion, safety and belonging and condemns all forms of discrimination.

No better way to start a new job than to immerse yourself in the moments that matter and meet the people who bring an institution to life. So great to experience the sense of pride, connection, engagement and affinity that keeps this community together. #UofTReunion

Highly insightful discussion b/w Dr. Danielle Martin, Chair of Family &Community Medicine and screenwriter, actor and director Sarah Polley. Parallels for communicators: demonstrate unconditional positive regard, ask the same question 3 ways, acknowledge feelings & explain limits

Excellent talk by Prof Emeritus Geoffrey Hinton on machine learning (incl. neural networks, propagation algorithms and embedding vectors), the deep promise of AI, and its ethical implications and risks -- something he's voiced publicly since his recent resignation from Google

Language is powerful. Systemic lies and harmful metaphors repeated over and over create a false memory code, making them -and the conspiracy theories they underpin - resistant to counter argumentation ctvnews.ca/sci-tech/new-b…

Beautiful day for the Longboat roadrunners 5K race on centre island. Finishing 6th and 7th in our respective age groups was a nice surprise 😁

New study shows a postsecondary degree can improve outcomes in everything from personal health and character to civic engagement and relationships. And the more advanced the degree, the more positive the outcome. Higher education for the win. insidehighered.com/news/students/…

It was a pleasure speaking to listeners in Kitchener, Windsor, Cape Breton, Kamloops & Victoria on the role of communications in helping organizations operate responsibly to earn trust. Can’t wait to discuss this with global CCOs at the Page Society conference in Toronto Oct 1-3

34 years ago today, I was in an undergrad class at UofT, when our Prof told us about the massacre at École Polytechnique. Today, and every Dec.6, I pause to remember the 14 lives lost and think about all those who continue to be victims of gender-based violence.

As the 2024 NHL All Star weekend begins in Toronto, it’s a great time to reflect on the deep connection between U of T’s Varsity Blues hockey program and the Toronto Maple Leafs. 🏒🥅🚨It’s also the perfect time to discuss how the future of the sport is diverse and inclusive ⬇️
