With clinician collaborators in Melbourne & Hong Kong, we sampled COVID cases from their first SARS-CoV-2 infection, through their primary vaccination, over 24 months to track SARS-CoV-2 peptide–HLA tetramer-specific CD4+ & CD8+ T cells, and probe-specific B cells.

We found that antigen-specific T cells and B cells are established in people with long COVID and maintained over 24 months, similar to individuals without long COVID. These adaptive immune responses are stable and boosted by vaccination in people with long COVID! T cells 👊

We found robust SARS-CoV-2-specific T cells with effector phenotype & key TCR signatures (by time & epitope) 👇 in people with long COVID over 2 yrs following SARS-CoV-2 infection & subsequent COVID-19 vaccination, suggesting that T cell responses are unaffected by long COVID.

Reassuringly in long COVID samples frequencies of ORF1a- & nucleocapsid-specific T cells (i.e. virus targets not in vaccine) remained stable over 24 months, indicating long-term persistence of SARS-CoV-2-specific memory pools in long COVID. Flu-T cells were not impacted 😅
