@Suture_UK Christopher Gee BBASS @Rungichungi Rhea Liang @otolaryngolofox Elliot Servais, MD, FACS Mark Bagnall PhD FRCS Ron Barbosa MD FACS David O'Regan ππ Lahey. Obviously!

@Suture_UK Christopher Gee BBASS @Rungichungi Rhea Liang @otolaryngolofox Elliot Servais, MD, FACS Martyn Stott Mark Bagnall PhD FRCS Ron Barbosa MD FACS David O'Regan ππ Now, I do like a good penny backer! So useful in a myriad of circumstances!

@Suture_UK Christopher Gee BBASS @Rungichungi Rhea Liang @otolaryngolofox Elliot Servais, MD, FACS Martyn Stott Mark Bagnall PhD FRCS Ron Barbosa MD FACS David O'Regan ππ Nothing beats a Foster-Gillies needle holder. Two instruments (needle holder and scissors) in one!

@Suture_UK Christopher Gee BBASS @Rungichungi Rhea Liang @otolaryngolofox Martyn Stott Mark Bagnall PhD FRCS Ron Barbosa MD FACS David O'Regan ππ For Thoracic, I'll go with the Finochietto and the Matson-Alexander. Countless uses for the Matson during open thoracotomy, especially for chest wall resection. #thoracic #surgery Tom Varghese Jr. MD, MS, MBA, FACS, MAMSE πΊπΈ Brian Mitzman Brendon Stiles Shanda Blackmon, MD, MPH Olugbenga Okusanya MD

Elliot Servais, MD, FACS @Suture_UK Christopher Gee BBASS @Rungichungi Rhea Liang @otolaryngolofox Martyn Stott Mark Bagnall PhD FRCS Ron Barbosa MD FACS David O'Regan ππ Tom Varghese Jr. MD, MS, MBA, FACS, MAMSE πΊπΈ Brian Mitzman Brendon Stiles Olugbenga Okusanya MD Yes- my fav for open thoracotomy as well. The Matson-Alexander is the best tool for harvesting an intercostal muscle flap, which is the most underappreciated flap we have. ICM flap can butress, rebuild tracheal wall, close esophageal leaks, and interpose to separate structures.

@Suture_UK Christopher Gee BBASS @Rungichungi Rhea Liang @otolaryngolofox Elliot Servais, MD, FACS Mark Bagnall PhD FRCS Ron Barbosa MD FACS David O'Regan ππ Justification? Careful dissection, slinging vessels and bile ducts, can even use to control small vessels eg from the IVC to the liver whilst tying the other side and thus minimising inefficient moves and instrument changes.

Brendon Stiles Elliot Servais, MD, FACS @Suture_UK Christopher Gee BBASS @Rungichungi Rhea Liang @otolaryngolofox Martyn Stott Mark Bagnall PhD FRCS Ron Barbosa MD FACS David O'Regan ππ Tom Varghese Jr. MD, MS, MBA, FACS, MAMSE πΊπΈ Shanda Blackmon, MD, MPH Olugbenga Okusanya MD nasser altorki Weill Cornell Medicine Cardiothoracic Surgery A little bit more from Pearsonβs AATS address & impact Belsey made on surgeons in Toronto, Chicago, and other places:

@Suture_UK Christopher Gee BBASS @Rungichungi Rhea Liang @otolaryngolofox Elliot Servais, MD, FACS Martyn Stott Mark Bagnall PhD FRCS Ron Barbosa MD FACS David O'Regan ππ Has to be the Alexis retractor

@Suture_UK Christopher Gee BBASS @Rungichungi Rhea Liang @otolaryngolofox Elliot Servais, MD, FACS Martyn Stott Mark Bagnall PhD FRCS Ron Barbosa MD FACS David O'Regan ππ Lahey for me. Great instrument to dissect, sling etc Also really love Supercut McIndoe scissors

Christian Macutkiewicz π³οΈβπ (he/him) @Suture_UK Christopher Gee BBASS @Rungichungi Rhea Liang @otolaryngolofox Martyn Stott Mark Bagnall PhD FRCS Ron Barbosa MD FACS David O'Regan ππ Lots of votes for the Lahey forceps Iβm all for it over here Lahey Hospital Lahey Surgery

@Suture_UK Christopher Gee BBASS @Rungichungi Rhea Liang @otolaryngolofox Elliot Servais, MD, FACS Martyn Stott Mark Bagnall PhD FRCS David O'Regan ππ Oneβs non-dominant hand is the finest surgical instrument ever devised. π€π

@Suture_UK Christopher Gee BBASS @Rungichungi Rhea Liang @otolaryngolofox Elliot Servais, MD, FACS Martyn Stott Mark Bagnall PhD FRCS Ron Barbosa MD FACS David O'Regan ππ Have always liked a laparoscopic peanut. Simple, but there are few more complex instruments that give the same combination of dissection, haemostasis and tactile feedback.

@Suture_UK Christopher Gee BBASS @Rungichungi Rhea Liang @otolaryngolofox Elliot Servais, MD, FACS Martyn Stott Mark Bagnall PhD FRCS Ron Barbosa MD FACS David O'Regan ππ Cooley βmyβ scissors. Only instrument that I asked to be added to the thoracic tray when I started. Great for PA dissections #surged #medicaleducation

@Suture_UK Christopher Gee BBASS @Rungichungi @otolaryngolofox Elliot Servais, MD, FACS Martyn Stott Mark Bagnall PhD FRCS Ron Barbosa MD FACS David O'Regan ππ Late to this party because I'm over on Le Ciel Bleu more now, but my fave for open surgery is the insulated, teflon coated diathermy blade tip. Used properly it can cut, coag, dissect, and be used as a teaching pointer- and comes in endless extensions.
