I’m writing from the airplane (flying to San Diego). I learned about John’s passing from one of my former PhD students ~1 hr before leaving my house to DTW. I still can’t believe this and I’m devastated too. So sad, so unfair. John and I were friends for many years. R.I.P., John.

I also heard about this yesterday through the grapevine, but have been waiting on confirmation. Sad to hear of John’s passing. He was a gentleman and an expert on high accuracy coupled cluster theory, and I always enjoyed our interactions.
