I can understand that the idea of Bobby not being able to save his first family but dying to save his second one might be appealing. But calling it a redemption is certainly a choice when that's what his life spent in service was supposed to be.

I also think there are a number of things that make the timing of this decision wildly insensitive, from the mockery of the Hotshots plot to the fact that we just had suicidal Bobby in s7 to the fact that by their own admission their main focus was just, we want to kill someone.

Also just, the way you could tell it was written with the sole intent of shaking things up. Shock value character deaths have never landed well with me, and never will, because I think it's cheap and lazy storytelling when you've run out of ideas.
