David Jack was #Southend United manager from 1934-40. He played once in the FA Cup in 1937 but a wage cap prevented him playing in League games. The plaque is on 254 Hamlet Court Road, Westcliff, his childhood home from when his father, Bob Jack, was Blues first ever manager.

Henage Wileman played for #Southend United between 1911 and 1922, captaining the team for several seasons. Aged 37, his career over, his marriage failed and his brother killed in WWI, sadly he swallowed poison and drowned himself in the River Trent. #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek

Good luck to the King Kevin Maher Testimonial match at Roots Hall this is evening, hoping for a big attendance in appreciation of a true icon of this club. Loyalty in football is rare these days, eleven years and four (and counting) as head coach is an unbelievable achievement. 🦐🦐🦐

Southend United’s entry to the Anglo-Italian Cup in 1993/94 and 1995/96 meant some unusual visitors to Roots Hall. 1993 we played Pescara (lost 1-3, att: 3,603) and Padova (won 5-2, att: 1,518). In 1995 we hosted Brescia (drew 0-0, att: 2,849) and Foggia (lost 1-2, att: 2,570).

Southend United are 119 years old today. Pictured is Oliver Trigg who was the landlord of the Blue Boar where the club was founded on this day in 1906, he also underwrote a lot of the club’s early debts. He passed away in 1919 aged only 41, his grave is in Sutton Road cemetery.

Football Statistics Nerd Alert !! 😁👟⚽️ Our National League Playoff Final will be the first time the Southend United FC First XI have ever played a match in June since the club's formation in 1906. We have only ever played Youth, Friendlies and Minor Cup before, and are UNBEATEN!
