It is with sadness that AWMS recognises the recent passing of Pete Spencer. Pete was a pioneer in the application of population genetics to wildlife management. He was a friend and mentor to many AWMS members. His absence will be felt deeply. Our condolences to his family. RIP

Sauron had a lot of problems, but he knew how to manage a wetland. The Dead Marshes were one of the environmental gems of Mordor, and an impressive nature-based solution to help remediate the environmental damage caused by the corpse issue after the Battle of Dagorlad

Our results suggest that freshwater crocodiles have adapted or learned to deal with toads but there is still a trickle of mortality due to toads. Take home message is that invaders can have long-term chronic impacts even if adaption occurs. rdcu.be/dDRIv UNSW Science

I've found it almost impossible to get an ecology paper through peer-review without comparing 50 different models using AIC. This paper is another nice example of why that's problematic. besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11…

The dryness index of my forest shire is in uncharted territory. Seen here as the red line compared to the black 5 year average. It’s a tinderbox out there.

More feral horses removed from Kosciuszko NP in the past 11mths (7,188) than in previous 21yrs combined (6,125)! For the 1st time, removals exceed population growth (~18%), meaning we can expect a genuine reduction in feral horses in the National Park. Thank you Penny Sharpe

Comments like this are pretty regular from the mob who don't want to see feral horses removed. It ignores the fact that acting on invasive species IS ALL ABOUT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE IMPACT OF HUMANS ON BIODIVERSITY. Sorry for the caps - just such a lame, false argument🤔
