The big point about going to university is not about getting a big salary. We need to look at the whole of higher ed again. Apprenticeships have a far worse dropout rate than uni courses. Many are excellent but not a magic bullet.

This “mickey mouse” degree discourse we keep seeing is deeply bizarre. It fails to recognise that the expansion of higher education in Britain has been one of the great social successes of the last few decades, a boon to working class social mobility and regional levelling up.
