Congratulations to Stop Sea Blasts and Joanna Lumley on their successful campaign to stop old munitions being detonated at sea, a practice harmful to marine life. Today the government announced plans to use more environmentally friendly methods.
Absolutely fabulous (๐) to meet Joanna Lumley today to talk about her campaign with Stop Sea Blasts. Protecting our seas & sea life is so important & Iโm pleased the campaign has resulted in a Govt policy change. ๐ณ #StopSeaBlasts

Meeting the wonderful Joanna Lumley to share the news that Government has announced a preference for low noise alternatives to clearing the large quantities of unexploded ordnance around our coasts Defra UK Dame Joanna Lumley Stop Sea Blasts
Around the UK old munitions are detonated to clear the seabed & install wind farms, harming marine life. Stop Sea Blasts have been campaigning for an environmentally friendly option. Yesterday the govt announced this - congratulations to campaigners including Dame Joanna Lumley! ๐
Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting Joanna Lumley at Parliament to discuss the appalling practice of sea blasts and to support the work of Stop Sea Blasts. This campaign is crucial in Scotland especially 10 years after the tragedy at the Kyle of Durness.
Fantastic to meet Joanna Lumley with the Stop Sea Blasts successful campaign to stop old WWI/WWII bombs being detonated around the UK, causing hearing loss in marine mammals. The UK Government announced yesterday that they will prioritise low noise alternatives. ๐ณ๐
I was excited to meet Dame Joanna Lumley outside Parliament earlier this week! My constituents and I are thrilled to hear that the Govt has agreed to take positive steps towards disposing of old munitions safely, in a way that will not harm marine life. Great work Stop Sea Blasts!
I was disappointed to have missed meeting Dame Joanna Lumley on her visit to Parliament to talk about her Stop Sea Blasts campaign, but nevertheless I support the Government's announcement that it will turn to more environmentally friendly methods of bomb disposal in our waters! ๐
Brilliant to meet Dame Joanna Lumley, to help the campaign to Stop Sea Blasts. Their focus is to stop the detonation of expired bombs at sea as it damages the hearing of our marine life.
Today, Environment Secretary George Eustice joined Dame Joanna Lumley and the Stop Sea Blasts campaign at Alford Group to observe alternatives to high order detonations. The UK is committed to reducing underwater noise and protecting vital marine life.
Great to hear about the Stop Sea Blasts Campaign Scottish Parliament. The detonation of expired bombs at sea must stop. This causes huge disruption to marine habitats and threatens the survival of whales and dolphins. To support this campaign, sign the petition: chng.it/m6VtY7v9VQ.
Fascinating to meet with Dame Joanna Lumley's Stop Sea Blasts campaign. There are 100,000 tonnes of unexploded ordnance in UK waters left over after WW1 and WW2 which need to be cleared but we must do it in a way that does not endanger marine species.
Some really great news to share from the #StopSeaBlasts campaign team. 80+ underwater munitions cleared in Scotland without detonation ๐ Huge thanks to Daily Express & Martyn Brown for the write up - this is a real step forward for marine protection๐ณ express.co.uk/celebrity-newsโฆ
