Bohuslav Martinů b otd 1890 - a composer who, though beloved, deserves more: to be adored. Master of so many forms, whose works pulse with vitality, warmth, unique beauty. "The artist is always searching for the meaning of life, his own and that of mankind, searching for truth."

Berlioz b otd 1803 - what an imagination! So astonishingly original; even surreal - a composer of dreams. "To render my works properly requires a combination of extreme precision and irresistible verve, a regulated vehemence, a dreamy tenderness, and an almost morbid melancholy."

"Music, thou queen of heaven, care-charming spell, That strik'st a stillness into hell; Fall down, down, down, from those thy chiming spheres To charm our souls, as thou enchant'st our ears." Robert Herrick (1591-1674)

No idea how many tickets might still be available but if you’re within reach of Cardiff please come & join us to hear the magnificent, unmatchable BBC Singers on Thursday in delectable repertoire by Welsh composers. You also get the chance to ask me awkward questions about #COTW

This Toccata by John Pitts is the most exciting and terrifying piece I have ever played. I still don't really know how I managed it, but I am rather proud of this recording (made in 2008). If you have 10 minutes to spare, join me on the rollercoaster! youtube.com/watch?v=Dm8NSC…

I absolutely believe in slow practice! It often works to try to do the 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐞 of what you’re aiming to achieve. - If you want to play fast, practise slowly. - If you want to play a scale evenly, it helps to practise with uneven angular rhythms. (e.g. dotted rhythm) -
