Trent Dilfer said his team has 11 open positions on defense heading into fall camp. Said his team had 19 open positions overall.

Quick impressions from first day of UAB football camp: Depth appears to be good throughout and the practice approach felt different than the last two years.

UAB transfer portal additions WR Kaleb Brown, DE Amorie Morrison and Eli Ennis practiced today after each missed the spring - or least most of it - with injury. All 3 should play a big role.

Jalen Kitna is UAB's starter at QB but I thought Ryder Burton also threw the ball well today.

In terms of the way he's built & the way he moves, I see some of a young JJ Nelson in UAB true frosh WR Jaylen Elder. Not making any predictions here but it will be interesting to see Elder develop over the years. Sure was fun watching Jamarcus J.J. Nelson Sr. grow into a NFL WR.
