Enjoyed this ‘black out poetry’ creativity exercise at the writing retreat hosted by @the_unicoach We took one page of a journal article we liked and blacked out words until we were left with a poem or statement. I chose a paper by Sonia Johnson Jingyi Wang

If the government really want more people back to work with health problems/disability, they would fund mental health services and make volunteering possible again. The near impossibility of volunteering in a sanctions culture that doesn't understand disability limits so many.

Enjoying the sessions, but please please please can people stop saying 'substance misuse'. How exactly are these poor substances being 'misused'?

Rest is a neurobiological imperative. That means we NEED it. It’s not a dirty word or concept. It IS a radical act of self-care in a world romanticizing the grind that leads to burnout + dis-ease. You don’t need to earn rest — you intrinsically deserve it.

Great article on #stigma & substance use in the media. Tackling stigma starts with language. Still surprises me in some professional settings how much the terms "substance misuse", "addict", and "user" are still used. As professionals, we have a duty to be careful with language.

Goodye The Relations Study 😫 Learned about the stigma & pressures that parents who use drugs face, stigma & addictions from a structural & systemic perspective, critical qualitative analysis, meaningful and high quality co-production & public engagement work. Will miss the team.

I am glad to be presenting findings from the Relations study on stigma towards parental opioid use. Looking forward to hearing other presentations on the theme: 'Living the Stigma: Understanding Addiction & Overcoming Prejudice'.
