#HiddenNoMore Christine Darden, Mechanical Engineer Darden is an #NC native, and the first African American woman to be awarded a doctorate of science in mechanical engineering. She spent her career at NASA and was considered a leader in sonic boom research.

#HiddenNoMore Annie Easley, Rocket Scientist The first spacecraft to orbit Saturn was launched in 1997 by a Centaur rocket that Easley helped develop. First hired at NASA as a mathematician, she worked to become an expert computer programmer and an authority on rocket engines.

#HiddenNoMore Dorothy Vaughan, NASA Mathematician African American women overcame barriers of segregation to make important contributions to our understanding of flight. Vaughan was one of the first African Americans hired as a “computer” at Langley Research Center in 1943.
