It's not some abstraction. If you're an American who went to college, you personally know people whose life trajectories were altered due to affirmative action-style discrimination against them on the basis of their race.

Electricity price by country in USD/kWH. I didn't appreciate just how much this varied! Goes a way to explaining different attitudes to aircon etc. NZ is 0.22 US is 0.18 China is 0.08 UK is 0.37 I'll bet this has a reasonable impact on economic growth rates.

A problem with government debt is that it binds the hands of future generations. If parties disagree on how the money should be spent, they can leave a debt to future governments to force them to behave more in line with their preferences. The more polarization, the more debt. 1/

Great writeup here on an amazing fact: *median* rent in NYC is $1650. 3/4 pay $2400 or less! How? Because *majority* of NYC rental units are not rented at market (mostly rent controlled, not public housing). The fraction paying market rent subsidize everyone else.

Neat thread. The homebuying market has always been interesting to me in that non-professional, only mildly iterative participants play such a big role. Here we see the more professionalized side (new builds for sale) reacting faster than the lay sellers.

Who is Karen Bass's "We Are Los Angeles" eviction aid + welfare/charity application assistance program helping? Data show 48% of recipients are jobless, and under 1% received the earned income tax credit for working households legally in the country. thecentersquare.com/california/art…

companies like Facebook record every imaginable interaction their users have with the platform. they log each of your clicks and taps. they keep track of how long your gaze lingered on a post, whether you were on the same WiFi as that woman who might be your friend, which
