Just watched an 80s cover band play a Depeche Mode medley. Immediately took me back to high school. Nostalgia quickly replaced w/anxiety and melancholy. I'd forgotten how hard hs was. Anyone in the thick of it rn, I promise these are not the best years of your life.

I was in a writers' group years ago. We met at a conference so we had days to make sure we fit. I want to start a new one but am afraid to post it somewhere & end up with a bunch of weirdos. Has anyone done this? Advice? Is there a tinder for platonic writing relationships?

How do you know if you write well? I've beta read amazing stories that get rejected repeatedly and read poorly written traditionally and self-published books with 5 star reviews. I honestly don't know where I rank or how to get a truthful opinion.

The plot can be compelling, characters interesting, and every comma in the right place, but there is something magical that transforms a manuscript into a portal that transports the reader to another world. What is that "IT" factor? I can't find the words for it.

Not all writing is good. Doesn't mean it can't be, just means it isn't yet. This constant it's subjective, there are no standards, if you're passionate it's good, you just need to find your audience lovefest isn't going to make any of us better writers.
