We very much enjoyed our Ag Week activities today related to food. Ss from the culinary classes at CACC made pasta for us and it was delicious. 😋Then Mike Szydlowski discussed fire and gave us a marshmallow to roast. 🔥 #cpsbest #PrairieProud

For our final Ag Week activity, we collaborated with 2nd grade. We went on a nature walk to collect items and designed a bookmark using contact paper. They turned out lovely! TMP will miss this 5th grade leaders next year. 🌸 📖 #cpsbest #PrairieProud

Today we played the Mystery Science game “Eat or Be Eaten” as an intro to our first science unit, Matter & Energy in Ecosystems. Based on their engagement, these 5th graders will be experts on food chains in no time! #PrairieProud #cpsbest

5th gr Ss were excited to welcome Mrs. Keith back to TMP for our first Farm to School lesson. She reviewed the ABCs of scientific drawings. We then practiced drawing something in our garden and finished with sampling some veggies. #PrairieProud #cpsbest

Ss practiced having respectful conversations and listening attentively as they discussed similarities/differences in food chains from different ecosystems. It’s nice when so many skills can be executed in one activity, especially on a Friday. 🤩 #PrairieProud #cpsbest

Today, 5th grade quickly braved the cold weather to test out their Mystery Science shadow clocks. It was fun to explore how the position of the sun (or flashlight) affects the time shown on the clock. We also observed the sundial in front of TMP. #PrairieProud #cpsbest

This morning in science we found a dark room to explore how changes in light affect the size and shape of shadows. These 5th grade scientists observed, measured, collected data, analyzed and drew conclusions with this one lesson. Wow! 🤩 #PrairieProud #cpsbest

We recently started our immigration unit in social studies. Ss took an interactive tour of Ellis Island and wrote down notes from each stop. They also read a book about Angel Island in Epic for Kids and answered questions. #cpsbest #PrairieProud
