A Monkey Tree across the way from our Dornoch flat. That's the unique story of the day. Lovely, as always this year. 2 more days. Off again to Portmahomack Golf Club tomorrow as the Captains Invitational is on the Top Course.

Dornoch has gone to 4 general sets of tee markers now. Most play is from the Orange at 6300 yards (par 70) vs the historic Yellow markers which were a shade over 6000. And the course seems even longer for we geriatrics, since first coming in 1992. But happy to be playing at all!

How about some of these fairway humps and bumps at Portmahomack Golf Club ? Short in yardage, maybe, but long on bounces, right and wrong angles, and a scorecard that will have you scratching your head when you add em up at the end. Blissful.

The sweeping vista from the 7th tee at Dornoch. 9 straight days of golf, not a drop of rain. These old bones are ready to head home for a rest. But upon arrival I'll need to pull out the lawnmower and do battle with 2 weeks of growth. But now off to see the Pipers in town.

The Pipe Band assembles near the castle in Dornoch. A wonderful seasonal tradition, and a fine fair well to our last night.

A piece of golf etiquette that is violated all the time: Thou shalt not talk to a playing partner's ball whilst it is motion. It does zero good physically or psychologically. Tho well intended it comes across as demeaning and/or patronizing. Talk to your own ball if you must.

It has been announced that The Les Bolstad University of Minnesota Golf course will sold at the end of this season and the 140 acre property will be sold. As an alum who has played 100's of rounds there I am too angry to think straight right now.

Bolstad continued playing as an honorary member at Hazeltine up until his death in 1998. The current Hazeltine logo, "The Walking Man, is based on Les still carrying a small bag with a few clubs on the course. I joined the club shortly after his death and was given his locker.

Want to put in a plug for the Scottish golf travel firm our group has used for years. They really know their stuff and can provide golf, accomodations, transport, etc. in any price range, with low mark ups. Ask for Paul Greenhill, and say Scott sent you. dpandl.co.uk

Golf ball prices vs. Minimum Wage My first job in 1967 paid $1.25 per hour. Top brand golf balls (Titleist, Spalding Dot, Maxfli) cost $1.25 each. Today (in Mpls,) general minimum wage is approx. $12.00 per hour. ProV1's are $5.83 each. Golf balls are a real bargain!
