First Record of The Weekend is the wonderful Fermantation from @jaketblanchard on Cardinal Fuzz. I've only just got my copy (for various reasons!), but if I'd got it last year it would have been towards the very top of my list of albums for 2024. A genuinely great record!

First Record of The Weekend is Róis with Mo Léan - the intruiging sound of updated ancient Irish keening songs by singer Rose Connolly. Doomy beats background an almost Liz Fraser-esque vocal of extraordinary power and timbre.

First Record of The Weekend is the remarkable Way Down East from Barbican Estate on WeirdBeardRecs - from lilting beauty to full-on fuzzed-up psychedelic blow-out in a beat, this album has so much going for it. Turn it up, bliss out.

First Record of The Weekend is Underworld with Strawberry Hotel. I've been hammering this one, can't get enough of it. Lush electronics and glorious production - it veers between strange, beautiful and massive beats. Marvellous - it's got me revisiting their back catalogue.

Here in Surrey earlier I went out to observe the "planetary parade" at about 7:00, and saw this amazing meteor streak across the sky to the North - a proper fireball that broke into at least 4 pieces before burning out. Anyone else see it?

First Record of The Weekend is Magazine with The Correct Use of Soap from 1980. Since I first heard about the recent re-issues I've been wanting to get this. Still sounds so great!

*Expletive warning for any sensitive readers* Fuck Trump, and anyone who stands up for him. Every civilised country in the world should be standing up to this bastard and telling him what a shit he is to his face.

First Record of The Weekend is Berlin's Jan Jelinek with Kosmischer Pitch - a remaster of the original 2005 digital release. So glad to get a copy of this, I've been listening to it over and over recently. Rich and entrancing electronics - quite organic and just a little retro .

First Record of The Weekend is Gregory Isaacs with Slum (in Dub) from 1978. It really is about time I had a bit of dub to kick off a weekend, and what a great record this is. Rattle the bass bins!

First Record of The Weekend is Arcane Allies with Mount Adhaphera - possibly the most beautiful looking slab of vinyl ever! The music is pretty damn good too - a heady blend of kosmische, rock and synthy goodness. Only arrived today and I'm loving it already.

First Record of The Weekend is Drop Out III from GNOD and White Hills on Thrill Jockey - the "re-imagined, remixed and re-sequenced" re-issue of Gnod Drop Out With White Hills II from 2010. I've not done a back-to-back comparison on these, but this sounds fresh and hot!

First Record of The Weekend is a peaceful one for a change - Even the Horizon Knows Its Bounds by Law by Lawrence English, featuring Chris Abrahams (The Necks) and Jim O'Rourke among many others. This is a beautiful drifting soundscape, a lovely way to relax into the weekend.

First Record of The Weekend is GHOST DUBS Extended Damaged Versions, and it is righteously shaking the foundations. Sinuous, snaking, subterranean dub to kick off Friday night.

First Record of The Weekend is Pere Ubu (Pere Ubu Official) with 390 Degrees of Simulated Stereo from 1981. From the first synth SCREEEE to the end, this is a fireball of a record which has had a massive influence on me (along with Datapanik) over the years. RIP David Thomas.

First Record of The Weekend is Surgeon with Shell~Wave. This is just great - dance music that rides the acidic crest of a psychedelic wave. Gorgeous looping delays recede into aural space, alongside beats heavy enough to have their own gravity field. Sorry neighbours.

First Record of The Weekend is Tvål's self-titled album on Cracked Plastic. An engrossing album of synthesizer sounds with a lovely retro feel - kind of Kraftwerk, kind of Depeche Mode, but with its own contemporary thing going on - gorgeous!

First Record of The Weekend is Twelves from Loop - a triple album compilation of their 12" singles from the 80s and 90s. These have really stood the test of time, and it sounds fantastic. Currently grooving to the version of Mother Sky. Play very, very loud.

First Record of The Weekend is Tall Tales from Mark Pritchard and Thom Yorke (Mark Pritchard & Thom Yorke). Had this a few weeks and keep coming back to it - a double album and there's a lot to it. Fascinating and complex, but not overly heavy or "difficult". A rewarding listen.
