The Olympians had things going tonight at the Capitol City Classic and the straw that stirred the drink was Braxton. The Sprague Basketball senior point guard did it all on both ends with his scoring, passing, and defensive play. A team high 17 points in the win.
First game this season - and in Sprague Basketball uniform - for Anthony Best and it was a good one, 14 points in a variety of mid range shots and tough drives to the hoop, including a fast break slam that got the late crowd pumping at the Capitol City Classic.
The X factor for Sprague Basketball tonight was Dukatti Witherspoon. The senior forward was physical down low with his rebounding and defense but also snuck in for some follows and even knocked down a couple of threes. 11 points and a bushel of boards.
Final: Sprague Basketball 62, Western Christian 50 Capitol City Classic Jarod Stanley led the Olys with 19 points. Anthony Best scored 15 points, Braxton had 12, and Avery Lohrman had 10. Gavin Hall led a balanced Pioneers attack with 11 points.
Strong and athletic forays to the basket are the specialty of Jarod Stanley and he had plenty of those today at the Capitol City Classic. The Sprague Basketball senior guard was especially devastating in transition in the second half, where he scored 15 of his team high 19 points.
First double-double of the season for Anthony Best in the Capitol City Classic in a Sprague Basketball victory. 15 points getting to the cup and 11 rebounds, including a number of putbacks, and also five assists as he dished out some nice interior passes.
A total of 10 points - two threes and two twos - for Avery Lohrman today at the Capitol City Classic but where the senior is most valued isn’t necessarily defined by raw numbers. Great defense on Western Christian’s star guards and incredible maturity and leadership from the senior.
