US #cattle placements during Q1 were -161,000/h compared to 2025. Feedlots in TX, KS, NE and CO purchased 225,000 less head. Falling live cattle demand in Nebraska, most of which will never return, helped push placements down by 145,000/hd compared to 2025.

Before we all get too excited about this "FAST" planting pace. Some perspective on where we are and when "Fast" starts to matter.

TDS, in relationship to the stock market and economy, is as bad as at any point since Trump was first elected in 2016. They’re blinded by their hatred of the president. Here we have economic and corporate earnings growth that’s in the process of surging to levels not seen in

Why the soybean oil strength?! It's screening the best among US inputs for Renewable Diesel margins... However, expect Chinese UCO to start making its way over. Plus, as European arbs close, foreign fuel imports will be of non-USMCA origin.

More post Cattle On Feed charts...Nebraska + Iowa April 1 inventories are the highest for the month (records start in 1998). Cheap inputs corn, DDGS are helping feedlots slow the marketing pace. Weights are becoming a problem and when does the packer start discounting??

Weekly ethanol production tanked this week, not seasonally abnormal though. You can see pace needed to hit the USDA corn use target ticked up. Going to need to see some strong crush to hit it

#Grain prices need to move. India’s tender confirms higher-for-longer #nitrogen prices. India appears to have pulled 2.5 MMT of #urea from the market, with trade estimates pointing to as much as 2.8 MMT in hand. The implied clearing level of $935-959/t CFR is roughly 85-90%

Choice cutout for 4/22....only items that really matter here: 1. packer margins (terrible). 2. Choice-select spread (why??) 3. Beef - Pork cutout (makes sense). 4. The cost of #cattle Good luck out there!!!
