While there was a lot of attention on #HealthDay, the next hours at COP28 are crucial for health. To protect health, #COP28 must deliver a strong outcome. This includes an equitable phase out of all fossil fuels, and an ambitious outcome on adaptation and finance.

The African Group has issued a statement on #Cop28. Unlike developed country statements, it starts with the global goal on adaptation and only later moves on to the global stocktake. It says it will not agree on anything unless its priorities on adaptation are met. 🧵

The current Global Stocktake text is weak across the board. If COP28 is to deliver for health as promised, we need ambitious commitments across mitigation, adaptation, loss and damage and finance. Parties are negotiating human lives. #COP28UAE

The text refers to the human right to health and the human right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment, but falls far short of adequate provisions for healthy climate action.
