New Zealand's @portersnz reports that "winter is back"

Australia's season keeps getting better. Most ski areas now past 70% open, including @hothamalpineresort pictured, Falls Creek Official at 100%. Base depths nearing the metre (40") mark, @thredboresort already there. More snow forecast next week.

Switzerland's Saas-Fee has opened for it's 2025 summer ski season which morphs into its 25-26 ski season in the autumn/fall.

It's not the snowiest of seasons yet in much of Argentina, but the world's most southerly ski area, @cerrocastor down in Tierra del Fuego province, has had regular top-ups and reports the most terrain open in the country.

Australian ski areas are now posting snowfall totals of more than 60cm (24") over the past week. @hothamalpineresort pictured.

Snowfall has returned to the Andes. Chile's @skiportillo reports a foot (30cm) in the past 24 hours and 70cm (28") over the past week.

Australia's and by some measures the southern hemisphere's largest ski area, @perisher_resort reports its now 100% open . All 45 lifts there are now in full operation, unlocking more than 3000 acres of terrain.

It's been a tough season so far in Argentina with snowfall volumes well below average, limiting what can open. This week though there is a healthy dump of fresh to report at last and Cerro Bayo S.A. are celebrating.

Some of New Zealand's club fields without snowmaking have had a challenging winter with warm temperatures and/or lack of snowfall and are yet to open. Broken River SkiArea was reported to be one of them but happily it has opened this weekend.

Finland has seen record heat this summer but Ruka Ski Resort reports things are now cooling and that its stockpiled snow remains in good shape, ready for its 25-26 season start less than two months away now at the beginning of October.

It may still be summer, but the first snow ahead of the 25-26 season has been spotted on the peaks above Norway's skistar hemsedal this morning.
