After almost a year working in an infrastructure team, I now know for sure that I'm much more of a programmer/coder. I still find it much more fulfilling and rewarding to implement features than to tinker with cloud/GPU setup (even when using infra as code).

I am judged only by my (perceived) impact. This means that nobody cares: - how much I work - when and where I work - how many days of vacation I take per year - what I wear This gives me almost complete autonomy to organize my life in such a way as to integrate work and life.

Decided to leave my current team because I became too comfortable and wanted a new challenge. When the new team accepted my application and I told my current team members about it, I felt their sadness, it hurt me and made me hesitant. Following the growth journey is hard folks.

In France, once you reach a marginal tax rate of 41%, it's the government telling you to chill and relax instead of trying to work more to earn more. There is such a strong diminishing return to climbing the career ladder :).

I view my permanent contract as a 6-months short term renewable contract. This way, I can never be laid off. It’s just that we didn’t renew it. One of the goals of each contract is to prove to the client why they should want to renew it for a new semester.

Vibe coding an app that kind of work is like having casual sex with a date. Crafting and maintaining a valuable production app is like making love to someone you’re committed to and deeply care about. Looks the same from the outside but is actually completely different.

The greater a place is, the more it can afford to have high taxes without people fleeing. This is the case of Paris for instance. A tiny fraction of what my employer pays goes into my pocket, yet I'd much rather pay such taxes here than be wealthier in Dubaï.

Joining a new team, and everyone is just so skilled, smart and hard-working. This pushes me to level-up just to stay in the game. It's challenging yet very exciting.

Currently having a Slack conversation with folks in SF, Toronto, Paris and Tokyo. Some are waking up, others are having lunch and others are on their way to bed :).

Imposter-Syndrome-Driven-Development: Join a new company/team where folks inspire you. Feel like an impostor. Grind hard to prove your worth as a senior. Exceed expectations. Rince and repeat.

In a single screenshot, you have my favorite newsletter (The Pragmatic Engineer) mentioning my favorite company (Shopify Engineering), using the last 2 products I've been working on (the LLM proxy and LibreChat (led by Danny Avila)). Thanks Gergely Orosz and Farhan Thawar for the shout-out!
