Yesterday, I delivered my statement in the Senate Chamber in Michif, the language of the Metis Nation. I hope this historic occasion will show Michif children across the Homeland that there is a place for them in every decision-making space, even the Senate of Canada.

An awful way to pass legislation, no matter your party or affiliation or stripe. Slamming entire clauses of a bill into law without any questions by anyone is the total opposite of what this place is supposed to be and what MLAs are supposed to do.

Things this doesn’t say: “I support the right for woman to choose”. Pretending this is not an issue for provincial government is just wrong - As a gov we’ve made mifegymiso and birth control FREE and available at pharmacies across the province. Leadership on this matters

Today, Bill S-250 finished its study at committee and will go back to the Senate for 3rd Reading. I must thank the Survivors for their ongoing direction and support. I would also like to thank all my colleagues for their collaboration and support throughout this process.

I spoke with First Nations leaders in BC about what a Conservative win could mean for reconciliation. They were blunt — not good. The Conservative Party didn't respond to questions or make anyone available for an interview. My latest for The Tyee. thetyee.ca/News/2024/09/2…

Almost three years after we first discussed introducing a bill to explicitly criminalize forced sterilization, late last night Bill S-250 came one step closer to becoming law and was adopted at third reading in the Senate. I am proud to have played a small part in this process.

Thinking an MLA only works when the house is sitting is such a profound misunderstanding of the role and responsibilities of an elected representative.

Hey folks. It's possible to disagree with someone & even to have been treated unfairly by them, yet respond to them with grace, respect & human dignity. We need more civility, less hatred. More forbearance, less bitterness. Let's be a nation where people are kind to one another.

A senator who has sponsored a bill to make forced or coerced sterilization a criminal offence in Canada says 12,000 cases of the procedure have been counted by her office, but she believes the actual number is much higher. nunatsiaq.com/stories/articl…

Speaking up wasn’t easy. But staying silent would have been a betrayal to all those who suffered the same injustice. This fight is not about me — it’s about justice, dignity, and fundamental human rights. #NeverAgain #HumanRights #JusticeForAll #SystemicRacisism
