I would view the WFTV report on the number of dead with some caution. It would be quite unusual for a central Florida TV affiliate to get a scoop on a death toll.

All LCS schools are back to normal operating procedures. Lockout has been lifted district wide.

FSU freshman Paige Miller was in the Moore building next to the Student Union when she heard 4 gunshots, followed by several more. When she was finally extricated by police, she saw at least two people injured and a possible suspect surrounded by officers. “It was terrifying.”

Hey Cox Media Group … your station in Orlando WFTV Channel 9 reported that 5 people died at the FSU shooting. Now they have quietly changed their story to say “multiple hospitalized” without a correction or context. Can you please address this and report back?

Hey @Coxmg and WFTV Channel 9 — I went and wrote you a statement: “Today, we compounded one tragedy with another. In an inexcusable rush to report the news first, we got it wrong. Our error surely led to added trauma at FSU and around the state and nation. We deeply regret our error.”

Like, are you kidding me? You falsely report 5 people died, I call you on it, and instead of acknowledging your error the action you take is to … block me? I’m an ex-journalist and I’ve never been more embarrassed for a news outlet.

WFTV is owned by Atlanta-based Cox Media Group. Let them hear about the way their affiliates treat people that correct their false reporting.
