Day 1 of the visit to Edinburgh as part of our ESRC-funded project on 'repurposing city centres' included a discussion with the developer of St James Quarter, a new major development in the city centre. A different perspective on city development, but certainly really insightful!

Day 2 included a visit to Glasgow and St. Enoch centre. Super interesting to listen to the management team of a major shopping centre on how they're strategically adapting to the changing retail sector with a focus on offering 'experience' and the experience economy.

Day 4: we made our way down to London and visited Battersea Power Station, a recently redeveloped project that turned a massive grade-II listed brick building (built in 1929 and decommissioned in 1983) to a high-end shopping centre (opened in 2022).

Had a great time at the University of Westminster presenting at the 'Repurposing City Centres Symposium' with Scott Orford... I posited that data is a fundamental evidence base for transforming our city centres, made easier by centres like CDRC! Thanks Sina Shahab! 🌍

Great to see the New South Wales Government (Australia) has used our typology of sludge in designing their sludge audit methodology. The paper Leonhard Lades and I wrote a while ago on 'Sludge and Transaction Costs' can be found open access here: doi.org/10.1017/bpp.20…
