Today the Government is presenting the Electoral Integrity Bill to the House. This Bill will contain provisions for Voter ID. Voter ID will potentially disenfranchise thousands of people. It is an illogical and illiberal solution to a non-existent problem

Would it help if we all said, on these platforms - happy to start - hey, I've often been wrong; I used to think stuff, and thought it defined who I was, but now I realise it was just ideas, some of which I no longer believe; changing your mind - publicly - is a good thing.

European civilization is built on ham and cheese, which allowed protein to be stored throughout the icy winters. Without this, urban societies in most of central Europe would simply not have been possible. This is also why we have hardback books. Here's why. 1/

Journalists: if National Insurance is rising from 12% to 13.25% it is NOT rising by 1.25%. It is rising by 1.25 percentage points. if you want to describe its rise in percentage terms, it is rising by just over 10%. It is a 10% tax hike.

If there is one lesson I can teach future analysts: If you want someone to draw a conclusion from a figure, state that conclusion. Don't expect that person to "just get it" from that figure. In fact, make that conclusion the title of your figure.

Coming from #rstats #tidyverse to #pandas. So far, other than the fact it's in python I'm not sure what the big deal is? Are there some things you can do with pandas you can't in R? Is it worth learning both? For those that did switch, what made you do so?

Calculate standard deviation from a frequency table in R. #rstats I'm aware there is an sd function for standard dev from a single vector. Is there a function you can give it values and frequencies? sd_2(values, freq, na.rm = FALSE)

Does #rstats have a nice way to draw directional bandwidths to illustrate traffic flows by direction. So traffic heading northbound would have a bar thickness and southbound would have another bar but offset to avoid overlapping.

Most people suck at presenting data. Instead of telling a story they throw numbers at the audience. Here are 7 crucial tips to present your data effectively:

Felicity Hannah "The laughs you get for being cruel are false, born of relief that they are not a target and the hope they can delay becoming one. The sneers you'll get for being kind are false too, born of discomfort and the hope no one will notice they don't measure up. Choose kindness."
