This is largely a function of "technologists doing VC" vs. "Finance people doing VC". One sees the future more clearly absent of a lot of data, and the other needs to rationalize everything with data.

Maybe I’m old fashioned, but I often root for the VCs that give the first term sheet to our companies. All else being equal it means they move quickly and with independent conviction, which makes them better than 90% of their peers

Seems that the job of a founder is to embrace nearly unlimited risk and convince everyone around them that that’s the only sane thing to do.

VCs, don't book a customer discovery call with a startup to meet the founders. Be upfront with what you want. You're wasting time that could have been spent with a customer. If you ever did this to me, I'd put you on my shit list and avoid ever raising from you.
