.Welsh National Opera doesn’t just mount incredible productions in big houses. They take their musicians into schools &hospitals, educating & providing solace &joy to the sick. There is so much more to their work that many know nothing of. And it’s all under threat.

'Sadly, we also know other companies have lost their orchestras, and shockingly Mid Wales Opera has had its arts council funding completed axed. None of this is to be taken sitting down, although standing up and shouting doesn’t seem to make any difference either.'

Great to start production rehearsals for Barber of Seville today. Pictured here with my fantastic team of director Cecilia Stinton and conductor Charlotte Corderoy. Both Opera Holland Park Young Artists alumnae.

The Three Choirs Festival is saddened to hear of the passing of Sir Andrew Davis. A guest conductor of the festival over a number of years, Sir Andrew's energy, charisma and artistic genius will surely be missed.

Don’t miss visiting Colin Davidson when it opens to the public from tomorrow at the National Portrait Gallery
These incredible portraits of people who suffered loss during the Troubles, first shown at the Ulster Museum in 2015, continue to have a profound impact on audiences.

I finished the TCS London Marathon with a new personal best, ran almost all of it this time and raised money for Bristol Refugee Rights. Didn't manage the time I was aiming for (good first half, tricky second) but spent a day loving London, running and some of my favourite music.

These were the sort of photos of Errollyn Wallen I hoped for to go with my interview with her for the ISM Music Journal a couple of years ago, but the weather didn’t play ball! Well worth reading this new interview by Kate Wakeling in the May issue of BBC BBC Music Magazine

So many happy memories of time over 35 years with Sir Andrew Davis. His laughter was infectious, his music making natural and inspiring, his commitment to new and British music unwavering. So many reasons to mourn his loss but celebrate the joy and privilege of having known him.
