My view of the Amazon star rating system: <4 Stars - Total crap 4 to 4.5 Stars - Almost certainly crap 4.5 to 4.95 Stars - A small chance it's not crap >4.95 Stars - Complete and utter crap

Not a great day for cloud services with significant outages for both Azure and AWS, with the latter near the 4 hour mark in length officially, but I believe the problem had been happening hours earlier than the official status acknowledging the issue.

Why is the default on many modern Linux desktop distros to have multiple bars (launch bar, dash bar, side bar). Who needs all of these? One bar/launcher seem sufficient. Sure, you can tweak it, but why start with this setup? Is it some weird Mac influence?

I'm convinced that Amazon just outright lies about their delivery dates and that it's a conscious decision to discourage ordering from other vendors with slightly longer delivery times. When they fail to make the promised delivery, there are no consequences, so why not?

Crazy to think that 33 years ago today Linux was announced to the world in a simple email. Even more crazy is to realize how it evolved the IT landscape in that time.

American Airlines constantly list flights with connections through CLT of <50 minutes, sometimes as low as 35 minutes, which is completely crazy. Does the execs team just enjoy watching the camera feed and laughing at passengers running to make flights?

I've spent a good chunk of my life preferring to work on technology vs talking to people, now AI comes along, and keeps asking me to chat. That's OK, I'm good! 🀣

The NFL has to figure out how to have more games broadcast in 4K, they just look so much better. Even this Fox playoff broadcast, which I think is actually just 1080p HDR upscaled to 4K, is still a huge step above the normal weekly games.

I really don't understand the trend for the save function to require opening a second window to change the save location. Is it really common to just save everything into a single location? It seems like a strange usability choice.

Sometimes, when I'm walking though terminal 1 at SFO or passing through LGA, it's almost hard to remember how outdated these facilities felt not that many years ago. Perhaps still not perfect, but both have seen massive improvements to the customer experience.

If AI is going to write 100% of code, and modern "code" is mostly just high-level abstractions for humans to understand, why wouldn't AI just generate low-level code directly? Is there a future with a highly optimized low-level language that only AI can write and understand?

It's incredible how far wireless tech as come in 25 years. The first wireless systems I worked with back in the late 90's could do maybe 1Mbps throughput with ideal conditions. Now WiFi7 gets >1Gbps to every corner of my house and can exceed 2Gbps in some cases!

It's quite interesting to observe the furious pace of technical debt creation AI has thrust upon us, but the real question is, will AI also be the path out of that debt?

One of the most surreal experiences I have with AI is when the results it returns are clearly based on my own prior writings.

Trying to unsubscribe from a mailing list for a local restaurant only to see they are playing the "find the link" game. The link is technically in that screenshot, but is white on a white background, which makes it a bit difficult to find. Kind of scummy if you ask me.

The NFL should be embarrassed by the lack of 4K broadcast they have in 2025. Even upscaled would be a huge improvement over the terrible quality they allow their broadcast networks to get away with. Watching multiple college games in 4K this weekend was amazing!
