I really enjoyed The Mariner's Song tonight! Edinburgh Festival Fringe Scottish Storytelling Centre @kinkyfish_drama A personal odyssey, but also looking at our relationship with the sea at a worldly level. Beautifully told by Rajan Sharma. I definitely drifted off into a happy place with the script.

With 15th August being the anniversary of both the end of WW2 following Japan’s surrender in 1945, and of India’s Independence in 1947, I’d like to take this opportunity to remember the contribution of the Indian National Army [INA] Tokyo Cadets, a.k.a. the Tokyo Boys (1/6)

Rajan Sharma (@sharmarjn) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Recruited from across SE Asia, these young Indian officer-cadets were sent for military training in Japan by INA Supreme Commander Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, tapped as future leaders of India’s armed liberation struggle against two hundred years of British colonial rule (2/6)

Rajan Sharma (@sharmarjn) 's Twitter Profile Photo

These young patriots were in Tokyo when Imperial Japanese forces surrendered - bringing their training to an abrupt end - and they attended Netaji’s memorial ceremony at Renkoji Temple in Sept 1945, after he died from injuries sustained in a plane crash in Taiwan on Aug 18 (3/6)

I’m proud to say that my grandfather Satya Prakash was a Tokyo Boy - he is sat second-from-right in front of a garlanded Bose in the next photo, taken on Oct 21, 1943, when Bose proclaimed the Provisional Government of Azad Hind (Free India) in Singapore (4/6)

Rajan Sharma (@sharmarjn) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Though the Tokyo Boys did not see active operations, theirs is a unique and extraordinary story in extraordinary times; a story I am excited to bring further to light in the months to come... (6/6)
