Stopped by the Portman Center policy symposium on housing earlier. I was very impressed with all of the University of Cincinnati students engaged in a discussion on such a critical issue in our community. And I got to listen to a panel with my friend and former colleague, Reggie Harris!

Sundance saw the Cincinnati that all of us here know and love - a vibrant, historic, beautiful city. But the process made clear that we have a national perception problem. Cincinnati is iconic. It’s time the world knew. And it’s our job to tell them. cincinnati.com/story/opinion/…

Today, Council honored the life and work of Cincinnati Police Department Officer Marcellus Jones. Officer Jones made an extraordinary, lasting impact on his colleagues, on his family and friends, and on the young Cincinnatians he spent every day supporting. His memory will be with us, always.

Started my morning by sharing a proclamation on behalf of Aftab Pureval with the Clovernook Center for the Blind & Visually Impaired at their Boldly BVI Awards Breakfast!

Last Friday, I put forward a proposal to fund a lateral police class on top of the recruit classes in our budget. It’s a first step, but it provides badly needed officers immediately to our force to not just outrun attrition - but start growing back to where we need to be.

Today we celebrate Juneteenth. It is the day we commemorate the end of slavery in the USA because on June 19, 1865, enslaved people in Galveston, TX were finally informed of their freedom. On this day, we celebrate freedom, but we also continue to fight for equality and justice.

National Night Out is a one of the best events we hold every year. It’s a great time to thank our Cincinnati Police for all they do, and keep strengthening the bond between them and the community. Glad I was able to stop by Districts 1 + 2 last night despite the weather!
