We asked every hospital in the country to report if they had one, but found only 43 open Acute Care for Elders (ACE) units in the U.S! Why is this evidence-based model not more widely implemented? agsjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.11… JAGS The John A. Hartford Foundation UCSF Geriatrics

Prolonged use of newly prescribed gabapentin after surgery occurred in 1 out of 5 patients. As non-opioid medications are increasingly post-op, attention needs to be paid to ensuring that these medications are used only on a short-term basis. #geriatrics agsjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11…

"She can't get inside the building because of her wheelchair." No. She can't get inside because the building is not accessible. The building has a barrier that does not let her in. The wheelchair is not the problem; the building's lack of access is the problem. Words matter.

Sleep as medicine... On behalf of hospitalized patients, what is we simply stopped ordering routine lab draws before 7am. What is we wrote an order, do not disturb before 7am except for an urgent need. Or an order for 7 hrs of peace and quiet. Vinny Arora MD MAPP nam12.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%…
