Wood Mackenzie confirms new natural gas generation is expensive! $126/MWh in 2030! New solar plus batteries are less than half the cost of new gas! New nuclear ($139/MWh) also is getting close to being cheaper than new gas! Gas too is dirty, biggest CO2 electricity polluter.

The data center boom as it's playing out in PA is the definition of unsustainable: - cap intensive - few FTEs - facilitate gas boom + resulting pollution - end of construction leaves hole in local communities - rising electricity prices We deserve better. #Sustainability

The passage of the 2025-26 PA state budget not only brings relief to our communities but makes headway against the ongoing affordability crisis. Yet there are many ways in which this budget falls short.

RIP #RGGI PA never wanted a piece of your $2.7 billion in lifetime energy bill savings or to help avoid 7.8 million short tons of CO2 emissions, anyway. #Pennsylvania is not interested in #sustainability or #affordability.

24% of Pennsylvanians were behind on their energy bills last year. PA communities in frackland are losing jobs + population. Extractive industries don't increase wealth for communities or affordability for residents. #Sustainability #affordabilitycrisis

Contrary to what is often asserted without evidence, during the longest economic expansion on record, states with high income taxes outperformed states with no income taxes

Not sure why one of the rallying cries behind the push that toppled #RGGI is to move PA's energy economy towards that of West Virginia, which has the 4th highest poverty rate in the nation.

Donna Kohut (@sedkohut) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Hey PA policy makers that want to lay out the red carpet for gas-powered data centers - it turns out that the people of West Virginia don't want them either. Our concerns are the same. We know extraction when we see it. Because we've lived it before.

Santa Fe is now the first city to tie the minimum wage to the cost of rent. The Santa Fe City Council voted to raise its minimum wage from $15/hr to $17.50 by 2027 — but they also added another provision. Future increases will factor in inflation, and the price of housing.

Imagine if the $90 billion promised to be invested in AI + data centers in PA were invested in: - clean-up of abandoned mine drainage - solar arrays + storage - public transit - cleaning up PFAS + frack water contamination - electrifying steel - decarbonizing cement making

Here comes another price increase. Maybe should've made some investments before now... #energyaffordability #affordabilitycrisis #DataCenters puc.pa.gov/press-release/…

Billionaires love it when we’re busy arguing with each other. Meanwhile, they're rigging the system to hoard money and power while we fight over the scraps. We’ve got more in common than they want us to think.

PA's economic development org is collaborating w/ the AI + gas industries to radically transform our economy. They were not elected. The plan = build new gas plants & hope Big Tech shows up (& consumes our land, water, & fails to deliver jobs). #statusquo
