Data for Progress, the Secure Jobs Act Coalition, and the National Employment Law Project conducted a survey of New York City workers. The polling, now public, showed shocking numbers of unfair repercussions for workers with caretaking responsibilities.

More than 1 in 3 NYC workers with childcare responsibilities were fired or disciplined for a situation related to that childcare.

Latine workers reported much higher rates (55%) of being disciplined or fired due to childcare responsibilities compared with white (37%) and Black (26%) workers. 1 in 8 NYC workers say they were disciplined by an employer for leaving work early to take care of a child.

61% of NYC workers who faced discrimination were too scared of being fired to speak up.

This data is further proof that NYC needs the Secure Jobs Act. I’m the Act’s sponsor in the City Council, and I’m backed by a broad coalition: securejobsact.nyc/who-we-are
