We must defend birthright citizenship. Under the proposed policy, I would be denied U.S. citizenship because my parents were undocumented. There would be one less Latino professor at an elite university and the nation would not be any safer. The 14th amendment is unconditional.

My sociological journey began in many ways with Michael Burawoy as an undergrad at UC Berkeley Sociology. Meeting with Erik Olin Wright in Burawoy's office when I got accepted to UW-Madison Sociology further propelled me on my intellectual path. I've been very lucky to have been taught by both. RIP.
