At RSPB Bempton 2 Wood Warblers this morning alongside 3 YBW’s. All within a minute walk from car park! First Hoopoe record for reserve earlier. Just one lucky observer and photographer. Dipped and gripped!!

At Bempton this evening my search for the elusive leaf warbler was interrupted by this hunting Barn Owl. Surprisingly close views, I froze and snapped a few pics. Watched it take and devour a Short-tailed Vole!

Déjà vu today mirroring a scenario experienced 8yrs ago at RSPB Bempton. When on 4th-6th Oct 2016, an Eastern Crowned Warbler took residence. If accepted, today’s bird will earn one lucky observer Britains 5th record! Search to relocate early doors tomorrow! (Chiffchaff pic)

Couple of good rares over past week at Bempton. Maybe something else by end of autumn? If it ends now, at least it’s been a good one here for many happy birders! Daurian Shrike & Pale-legged Leaf Warbler.

At Bempton today a poop sample from the ‘Daurianesque’ Shrike was successfully secured by warden Dave Aitken! Soon to be winging its way to Martin Collinson #BLM for DNA analysis. Will update with result when completed 👍🏼 (nature trail image from Saturday)

Perfect timing as I arrived at Bempton this morning just minutes after Richard Cope found the Red-flanked Bluetail! Then saw his next find, a Dusky Warbler on cliff top!! Sharp guy! Some good padders to on back of a jam-packed cascade of migrants yesterday!

At Bempton RSPB, the Bluetail showed from 10.30ish to 18.00 for many happy observers today. Mostly in the Dell in flight, posing perched up and even had time to sunbathe! Was later seen later Pallas’s Patch later in day. A Little Bunting earlier was a bonus!

This young Gannet (guga) will likely leave Bempton early Nov! Latest ones include 05 & 15 Nov. Fifty-nine Whoopers passed in-off over cliffs, some giving great close views! 150+ yesterday. The Bluetail for its 12th day continues to please many visitors.

Pulses of incoming migrants last few days at Bempton. Wandering the cliff top grasses and scrub producing exciting birding. Huge numbers of largely thrushes & starlings. Lap & Snow Bunts, WRails, Woodcock, finches, owls, geese & a fit little Siberian Chiff today! #moretocome

For first time, breeding Willow Warblers at RSPB Bempton reserve! Bumper crop of six fledged juveniles. Safely being fed by male all day in main Dell.

After decades of hope, finally nailed Red-veined Darter at Bempton RSPB Reserve today! Of course a scorching male, and constitutes first reserve record! Also a reserve 3rd record of Black-tailed Skimmer, an immature male. Hopefully more to come over the week ahead 🙏🏼
