Multiple women in UW Allen School’s Systems Lab sent a letter July 12 detailing “inappropriate romantic advances,” “gender-based harassment,” and “sexist comments.” Yesterday, an email to Allen School graduate students and postdocs confirmed an investigation is underway.

Since I posted about the UW situation on social media, the students have been organizing, offering support and demanding action. It’s the first time in this whole situation that I have felt like this was the department that I use to belong to.

Kudos to Irene for speaking up. I hope the survivors get the support they need. If you are a PhD student in computing who has witnessed or experienced sexual harassment at UW (or anywhere else), let me know & I'll support you. I also know others who will - you aren't alone.
