"The act of writing the thing is the same thing as the thinking of it. If you can’t write it, you haven’t actually thought it.” Read, study, contemplate, posit, detail, explain, speak, pursue, rebut, advance, and then rise from just a person or politician to the level of a

The Sino-Russian alliance—buttressed by North Korea and Iran—is consolidating. One more reason the current talk in Washington about disaggregating the Atlantic and the Pacific theaters makes no geostrategic sense. In reality, the adversary gets a vote. asia.nikkei.com/Politics/Ukrai…

Quite so. Present frictions with the USA remain solvable. The threat from the PRC is not, absent a concerted campaign to root out their influence from Cdn politics and society, and ensure Canada is no longer a permissive environment for PRC intimidation and influence campaigns

Really loving this approach to containing China of tariffing our best regional allies into a recession, while simultaneously demanding that they increase their defense expenditures.

This is an insane take and pure Chinese propaganda. Canada’s grid has over twice the share of renewables as China. Canadians use over twice as much electricity per capita as Chinese.

As 🇨🇦 grapples with a renewed period of 'hard' geopolitics, must do a better job at prioritizing core interests over peripheral ones. A secure trade/defence relationship with US is more important to 🇨🇦 than MidEast. 🇨🇦's recognition announcement a needless friction

No matter how unlikely an agreement—given military realities in Ukraine as well as Putin’s insistence on maximum objectives incompatible with Ukrainian security interests—as I said before, with Moscow and Washington getting together and excluding Europe and Ukraine from the

"the decisive factor may not be the sheer number of startups or low-cost drones, but rather a nation’s capacity to develop deeply integrated, scalable, & resilient defense ecosystems." Smart piece on innovation, Ukraine & lessons therefrom. War on the Rocks warontherocks.com/2025/08/ukrain…

Precisely this. Whether one calls it an Axis an Entente a whatever, this is a classic geopolitical alliance. Western policy that does not grapple with that reality is fatally flawed

There are three layers of Russia’s geopolitical calculus: 1) the complete subjugation and annihilation of Ukraine, including control over territory, population & critical raw materials and rare earth elements. 2) a nonkinetic war against Europe, including the destruction of the

I couldn’t agree more. Right now, with AI and data centre demand and onshoring manufacturing, having access to practically unlimited energy is a huge competitive advantage. Yet we are building almost nothing for it. Our current role in the AI race is to export natural gas to USA.

Main goal of new defence spending should be to ensure CAF is made credibly war ready, and is able to fight in a prolonged major war alongside Allies. That readiness of both the force and its supportive DIB, accompanied with resolute political will, equals credible deterrence

I continue grow increasingly concerned that we are the UK circa 1900, with China playing the role of the Wilhelmine Germany. Except we are quite busy torching any prospects for an Entente Cordiale rather than building one. And there's no US in the wings to bail us out.
