Real talk. Say what you want about our unions’ demands but University of California showed up an hour late to the bargaining table today after fully canceling bargaining sessions yesterday. When they say they are bargaining in good faith, that’s a *bold face lie* #FairUCNow #UAWonStrike

UC Faculty Assoc. University of California I want to speak to faculty who feel hurt, blindsided, and angry about the #FairUCNow strike. Faculty are most immediately hurt by these strikes, and it can feel unfair especially for those who have spent their career trying to make grad ed better.

I can't even with the people whose response to UC postdocs earning a living wage is to complain that they can't afford them anymore. That our field is dependent on exploitative labor practices is not their problem.

Stanford increased mandatory minimum postdoc salaries ~5 years ago (currently $68,238 for a starting postdoc). The NIH has regularly funded R01s with these salaries so that is not an issue. Bridge funding helped PIs without reserves adjust.

A Jack of All Trades, A Real "Renaissance Dye"! Announcing CRhOMe ("chrome"), a new voltage sensitive dye that we developed at Miller Lab CRhOMe is great for both monitoring action potentials and quantifying voltage. Preprint: biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Hachiman is hot off the (preprint) presses! Owen Tuck and I in @doudna_lab present a model for how this broad-activity defense system recognizes genome integrity, a core feature of phage infection. Check out the preprint and Owen's thread for the news:
