Dallas Historical Society will host a panel on Juneteenth next Thursday. Juneteenth marks the date Union troops arrived in Galveston to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation. The is the only known remaining original print-out will be on display at the Hall of State in Fair Park.

Mayor of Frisco giving his last “state of the city” speech before hitting his term limit. Frisco has grown from 172,000 to 237,000 since he took office in 2017. With growth in the northern part of the city, he says Frisco could reach build-out between 2032 & 2035.

Frisco just approved 2 more office towers & a hotel at the Star. Toyota Financial Services rented an entire building with no incentives. Mayor says that was DFW’s biggest corporate relocation in 2 years, and they’re now planning an expansion. “They just wanted to be in Frisco.”

Irving PD announce an arrest in a 1994 murder. They say the suspect was Megan Johns’ neighbor. Chief says ability to use DNA evidence has helped their cold case squad make progress on cases like this. He says detectives had an “unwavering dedication & tenacity” to solve it.

Megan Johns was 29 when she was killed in 1994. Irving PD has arrested a neighbor using DNA to link him to the murder. Her sister thanked detectives saying, “Even after 30 years, 8 months & 6 days, God’s timing can prevail.”

Reliant Energy & City of Dallas are partnering for their 16th annual “Beat the Heat” program. Reliant will give away 260 portable cooling units. First day of summer is Friday, “and we are feeling the heat. That can be dangerous, especially for seniors, children & pets.”

Dallas will open 2 “Beat the Heat” centers at the MLK Community Ctr & West Dallas Multipurpose Ctr. Libraries & rec centers can all be used as cooling stations. Reliant is donating 260 cooling devices, but they say all of them were reserved within 10 minutes last year.

Tarrant County, state & federal agencies say a 2 month operation has led to 76 arrests for gun crimes. They say suspects also trafficked cocaine, meth, heroin & fentanyl. Some had previous felony convictions. They say 8 suspects are illegal aliens with ties to a Venezuelan gang.
