OTD in 2017 Shane Hall preached on Philippians 4 at the SBC Pastors Conference. “All we need is Jesus." Shane passed away from cancer in February 2018.

OTD in 1925 17 yr old Bill Wallace worked on a car in his garage. As he worked he felt the Lord’s call on his life to be a medical missionary, and surrendered on the spot.

"After study of God's word comes study of the (missions) fields. Then people pray. Then they give." OTD in 1850 Annie Armstrong was born. Under her leadership Woman's Missionary Union (WMU) was formed and the offering for missions for NAMB is named in her honor.

July 19, 1651 John Clarke, Obadiah Holmes & John Crandall arrived in Lynn, MA at the home of William Witter where they held church services the next day. They were arrested for illegally preaching & administering illegal baptisms. Pictured is John Clarke.

With the name like this it was bound to happen : In 1849 Reverend Baptist Noel, a respected Anglican minister and royal chaplain to the Queen, received believers baptism and joined the Baptist church.

OTD in 1935 Bill Wallace was appointed as a medical missionary to China by the Foreign Mission Board IMB He served in China until his arrest and martyrdom in prison in 1951.

OTD in 1773 John Rippon began his ministry at Metropolitan Tabernacle in London. He would serve there for the next 63 years. The church has had other notable pastors like Benjamin Keach, John Gill, and Spurgeon, but none ministered as long as Rippon.

OTD in 1897 GW Truett was called as pastor at FBC Dallas by a vote of 74-3. His starting salary was $1,800 a year, a huge sum at the time, representing half annual contributions of the church. Truett served as pastor until his death in 1944.

OTD Adoniram Judson was born. The missionary to Burma labored 7 years before his first convert. He translated the Burmese Bible and was among first to adopt native customs to reach the people. He buried two wives and several children in Burma. Read more imb.org/2018/03/27/mis…

OTD in 1928 CS Carnes left his desk at the Home Mission Board and never returned. He was arrested 6 weeks later for embezzling over $900k ($12 mil in today’s $) from HMB. Carnes was in jail for fraud just 2 yrs before becoming HMB Treasurer Read more baptistpress.com/resource-libra…

OTD in 1761 William Carey, the father of modern missions, is born in England. His essay, An Enquiry into the Obligations of Christians to Use Means for the Conversion of the Heathens, led to the founding of the Baptist Missionary Society. He served 41 yrs in India w/out furlough.

OTD in 1952, J Frank Norris passed away. The long time pastor of FBC Ft Worth was a controversial fundamentalist. He had public feuds with many Baptist leaders, was charged but acquitted of arson and perjury, regularly attacked Bapist institutions, and shot a man in his office.
