reading the two towers movie script right after finishing the book is such a wild experience. I'd forgotten how much they changed. Like Frodo isn't tempted by the ring in the least in the novel, and he doesn't have that big fight with Sam or let gollum drive a wedge between them

Out from the water a long sinuous tentacle had crawled; it was pale-green and luminous...It...had hold of Frodo’s foot, and was dragging him into the water. Sam on his knees was now slashing at it with a knife. The arm let go of Frodo and Sam pulled him away, crying out for help

The WATCHER grabs FRODO from behind and puts him out of the cave and into the water. FRODO: Help! SAM: Get off him! SAM rushes forward and cuts off one of the WATCHER's tentacles!

‘Books ought to have good endings. How would this do: and they all settled down and lived together happily ever after?’ ‘It will do well, if it ever comes to that,’ said Frodo. ‘Ah!’ said Sam. ‘And where will they live? That’s what I often wonder.’

Frodo looked across at Sam. Their eyes met and they understood. They relaxed, leaning their heads back, and shutting their eyes or seeming to. Soon the sound of their soft breathing could be heard.
