"SQUEEZE MY HAND!" Verbal commands like this are issued daily to traumatic brain injury patients in ICUs around the world. Persistent absence of command following is felt to be a poor prognostic sign. Is it? We share new results in JAMA Network Open 1/4

Now THIS good. ~10K severe TBI patients, excluding those who died in hospital. Every day from the point of impact, each day without following commands = a 1% increase in the risk of death or dependency. So 40 days = 40% risk . The 1% rule jamanetwork.com/journals/jaman…

Very cool work/pragmatic work Sam Snider. Would be fascinating to see a similar study in patients that are comatose after #cardiacarrest. My guess is that it might become the 2% rule in that population...

Despite the urge to prognosticate in the early days after severe TBI, these results suggest we might take a little pause and consider this new 1% rule.

Is generalized epilepsy a seizure of the whole brain or a specific brain network? In our new paper out now in Nature Communications we investigate this by combining brain abnormalities and DBS with the human connectome. Paper: nature.com/articles/s4146… A 🧵 below:
