This lovely little children's book is now in print! It had been available only on the Salter Centenary website. But now Alfred Salter's great-niece and her husband have generously funded printed copies for all Southwark primary schools. Thank you so much, Jo and Sebastian!

Another amazing contribution to the Salter Centenary! Compass School's beautiful little film 'Ada' imagines Joyce coming alive and interacting with today's Bermondsey school kids. So moving! YouTube: youtu.be/CkqytP80wZQ

100 years ago today, on 1 November 1922, Ada Salter and her colleagues gained control of the local council and began their #Bermondsey Revolution that transformed the borough. Congratulations on the centenary! We need those ethical values and visionary policies.

On this day in 1922 Ada Salter chaired her first council meeting as the first woman Mayor of Bermondsey. She announced that she did not intend to wear the chain of office, since respect should be gained by personality and character rather than by the decorations of office.

Today is the anniversary of the 1922 General Election when #Bermondsey elected Alfred Salter their MP for the first time. Alfred: "I have sufficient faith in the Moral Order behind the universe to believe that justice and equity will always win in the end."

So happy about the blue plaque! Judi Dench said: 'Ada was a force to be reckoned with. We have so much to thank her for and so much that we can still learn from her. I’m delighted to help bring this heroic woman into the public eye.'

Despite blustery weekend weather, 25 enthusiastic Salter Centenary supporters went to see Ada's blue plaque on Sunday afternoon and met up for tea in Southwark Park cafe. (Here's a few by the lake with a framed Ada tea towel!)

Thought of the Week?! When Ada Salter became Mayor of Bermondsey in 1922, she ordered that royal jubilees and royal birthdays were no longer to be celebrated. The money saved would be distributed to the needy........
