This is a very balanced view on the push/pull of standardised teacher education on one hand and extremely variable school contexts on the other. blog.aare.edu.au/teacher-readin…

See this new useful resource produced by ACER "Unpacking the Science of Reading" Lots of detail and nuance in the explanation plus fun visualisations - and a link to an extended review paper. This is the kind of accessible information we need. features.acer.org/unpacking-the-…

Expert insights from a cognitive scientist and head of a School of Education, who could not be more qualified to have an opinion on the debate about initial teacher education in Australia. Thank you Penny Van Bergen educationhq.com/news/ite-unfai…

#academia I have levelled up yet again. Just had an email telling me that something I wrote is wrong because *reasons*. Why do people do this? It's so weird. Write your own publicly available article if you feel compelled 😉

I completely agree with this. The whole "make all learning relevant to students' lives" puts serious limits on what they can ever learn

Education Minister Jason Clare said "Australia's teacher shortage has been 10 years in the making" I finished my B.Ed in 2004 and they were talking about teacher shortages then. You'd think govts might have had maybe a proper plan for this problem 🤔 abc.net.au/news/2024-09-0…

Immensely pleased to announce my daughter is finally old enough to be interested in watching adaptations of Jane Austen novels. We loved the 1996 version of Emma and have now started on the Pride & Prejudice tv series 😍

Also, I may be old but the 90s were a real high point in tv/film adaptations of 19th century novels. The more recent ones are mostly just bad. Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennett? No thank you. And what on earth is this new version of Persuasion on Netflix? Terrible...

We are up to the last episode of Pride and Prejudice and now one son and one husband are totally invested in the story too 😂

Goodbye big tree! Our neighbour has decided the big conifers at the back of their garden need to be chopped. I'm mostly sad about the birds & the shade - plus my husband has been going on & on about how the funnel webs will crawl out & take up residence under our house ☠️
