Happy #NationalDonutDay! In 1917, Salvation Army EDS responded to aid during World War I. Faced with war conditions, they fried donuts in their helmets. The women became known as "Donut Lassies" and are often credited with introducing the donut to the public when soldiers returned.

The Salvation Army has been serving in St. Louis in response to a tornado on May 16 and has distributed over 24,000 meals. As the operation continues, services will begin to evolve, and SalArmyEDS is coordinating on a Multi-Agency Resource Center and bulk resource distribution.

Laurie Fried, the Southern Territorial Long Term Recovery Specialist helped lead workshops for South Caroline VOAD this week on how to bring together and successfully organize and manage long term recovery groups.

Emotional and Spiritual care, while always a mainstay of Salvation Army Disaster Response, is pivotal in response to the devastating 4th of July floods in Texas. For many who have lost loved ones, homes and belongings, the emotional toll and trauma is just beginning.

Salvation Army EDS teams continue to respond after devastating flooding in Texas. Cleanup kits, toys for children, and comfort and hygiene kits are just some of the ways our teams are providing relief on the ground, always with an emphasis on emotional and spiritual care.

Salvation Army EDS has been on the ground serving first responders as search and rescue continues in Texas. One response team from Mexico stopped by a mobile kitchen location yesterday for refreshments and new, clean socks.

SalArmyEDS teams are continuing supply distribution to flood survivors in Texas. Yesterday, 252 clients came through the center with over 1000 items distributed. Teams are also present at Disaster Recovery Centers meeting with survivors to begin the process of recovery.

Recently, the GA Division conducted an Incident Command System tabletop exercise, bringing together participants from across the state. This collaborative training allowed attendees to refine their ICS competencies and simulate response strategies for a large-scale hurricane.

Today, General Lyndon Buckingham visited Southern Territorial HQ. EDS leaders were excited to share how SalArmyEDS is helping disaster survivors across the region — from response efforts to the July floods in Texas to long-term recovery efforts for Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
