I wrote a blog post in memorial of David C. Marr, a neuroscientist of previous century on the topic of Marr's Tri-level Analysis, its revised form and the birth of Mechanistic Interpretability. sabertoaster.github.io/blog/2026/in_m…

Quanta Magazine's coverage of our CellTransformer study: quantamagazine.org/fed-on-reams-o… Another big shoutout to Alex Lee, who did most of the heavy lifting, and to our collaborators at the allen institute, including Bosiljka Tasic and Hongkui Zeng. UC San Francisco

Yeah and still the amount of connections in human brain is significantly larger comparing to ANN's amount of weights also (100T - 1000T compare to the largest, estimated, proprietary LLMs of 1.5T - 1.8T params; recorded at the beginning of 2026)

Just out in Nature Neuroscience!🧠“Competitive interactions shape mammalian brain network dynamics and computation” nature.com/articles/s4159… Is large-scale brain communication purely cooperative — or is competition a core organizing principle? We built 🧠models to find out: read on🧵👇

JEPA are finally easy to train end-to-end without any tricks! Excited to introduce LeWorldModel: a stable, end-to-end JEPA that learns world models directly from pixels, no heuristics. 15M params, 1 GPU, and full planning <1 second. 📑: le-wm.github.io

#eNeuro: Computational neuroscientists often attempt to understand the brain using analyses that assume stronger neural signals are more important to the system. This work challenges that core assumption. doi.org/10.1523/ENEURO…

The Orange Cat Brain Atlas is here. 🧠🐈 Today, we published the first comprehensive cellular map of the orange cat brain. The new atlas reveals a single, specialized neuron responsible for behaviors like staring at walls, knocking objects off tables, and the 3am "zoomies."

i've always found it helpful to think about different "species" of RNNs (from vanilla RNN and networks of LIF neurons to GRU/LSTM variants) as different special cases of a general framework "gated retention". I explore this idea in the newest video: youtu.be/PAoe7mmmvp0?si…

A new paper published in Nature Astronomy says if LLM can easily replicate what counts as your scientific contribution, then the deeper problem is not the model, but the fact that the work was too routine, formulaic, or low-value to begin with. --- nature

What happens when you put competing neural networks in a Petri Dish and start changing the rules while they adapt? Last year we released Petri Dish NCA, where neural nets are the organisms that learn during simulation. Today we're releasing Digital Ecosystems: a browser-based
