Early emergence likely one of the reasons stiltgrass is problematic. Most have not yet applied crabgrass preemergents.

It's the time of year to keep an eye out for goosegrass breakthrough. Standard pre programs provided good control so far, but closer inspection reveals goosegrass seedlings. Scout for seedlings and apply post herbicides before plants get too big.

Reseeding safety after preemergence herbicides applied in May. Good ryegrass but poor bentgrass establishment from a mid-August seeding. For unplanned seedings, check herbicide label for safe reseeding interval, especially if seeding bentgrass.

I suspect we will see some Japanese stiltgrass emergence this week. But probably still some time before crabgrass emergence since things cooled off.

One week after seeding KBG, which means these are P. annua seedlings. Mesotrione applied at seeding is controlling the broadleaf seedlings, but most of these Poa seedlings will survive. One mesotrione application is usually not enough where there is a strong seedbank.

Installing bentgrass into this P. annua green to evaluate encroachment. One study has mat layer pH gradient from ~5.0 to 7.5. Large differences in P. annua quality across the gradient. 2nd study will evaluate pH, phosphorus and PGR programs. Supported by USGA Davis and Tri-State
